ST. MAGNUS CENTRE, ORKNEY

St Magnus Centre, Orkney

Established in 1137 St Magnus Cathedral is one of the two surviving medieval cathedral churches in use in Scotland. The cathedral is owned by the people of Orkney and services are open to all.

The winner of an RIAS design competition, the St Magnus Centre created a new visitor facility for the Friends of St Magnus, on a site overlooking the Cathedral, incorporating and extension to the existing Victorian hall. The rejuvenated hall combines a community meeting place with visitor facilities and study library in a new extension. The flexible spaces cater to a wide variety of church, community and arts events.

The project won a Civic Trust Award
