ARPL have carried out a large number of church projects including conservation and repair; alteration, re-ordering and extension; and designed new church facilities.

Our involvement with church buildings, working both with individual parishes and national and regional church management ensures an understanding and knowledge of the current concerns and issues churches are facing.

Many of the churches are significant historic buildings and work has been funded through grant trusts and HS/HLF funding. The conservation work of the practice has enhanced the knowledge required with sensitive and contextual repair.

We also have 30 years of experience in finding new uses for redundant churches, and approach this work with an ethos of reversibility.

Lamlash Parish Church, Isle Of Arran Over recent years the congregation have carried out a significant conservation and repair project of the complex of listed church buildings in a phased programme. View Case Study

St John’s Renfield Church, Glasgow The fleche spire, a significant landmark in the west end of Glasgow, is exposed to the prevailing westerly weather and was in need of specialist repair and conservation. View Case Study

St Ninian’s Church, Pollokshields, Glasgow During adjacent construction works, St Ninian’s experienced some severe damage to the west end of the church, particularly affecting the window tracery and stained glass, and required conservation repairs. View Case Study

St Magnus Centre, Orkney The winner of an RIAS design competition, the St Magnus Centre created a new visitor facility for the Friends of St Magnus, a study library and community rooms on a site overlooking the Cathedral. View Case Study

Symington Parish Church, Ayrshire The Category A listed 12th century Church in the village of Symington has benefited from a phased series of repair and conservation to the roof, stonework, timber structure and stained glass, and recent new porch and landscape work. View Case Study
