GRANT FUNDING SUCCESS FOR CHURCHES

ARPL are delighted that two more churches have had Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland grant funding approval for conservation repairs.

Stage 1 approval will allow us to develop the detailed information for the stunning A listed village church in Dunscore near Dumfries designed by James Thomson and built in 1823. The church requires extensive high level repair of stonework and roofs and will then carry out some internal alterations to accommodate a permanent exhibition of the life of Jane Hainey, a young woman from the village who dedicated her life to caring for children in a Hungarian orphanage and died with them in a Nazi concentration camp.

Stage 2 approval was also given for one of the largest grants in recent years, to B listed Kirkcudbright Parish Church, designed by Willaim Burns in the heart of the town.  The £260k contract is expected to get started on site in the late summer.
