ARPL PRESENTATION AT DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CONFERENCE IN DUBLIN

Gordon Fleming, director at ARPL, has presented our designs for the new model secondary school in Tallaght to an international gathering of educationalists, head teachers, education civil servants and architects at a special colloquium on developing teaching methods in Dublin.

Appearing at the invitation of the Royal Institute of the Architects in Ireland, Gordon described the innovative ideas behind the proposed patterns of teaching and organisation in the new school design. The Colloquium concentrated on the significant benefits of cross curricular learning and the potential impact of new technology on the teaching of secondary school age children. Looking at examples of new schools in Europe, America and Australia the gathering explored how school design should respond to the new pedagogy.

Our competition winning design is being developed as the first of a new generation of secondary schools in Ireland. Working with the Department of Education and Skills in Ireland we are developing a school design which offers long term flexibility in learning environment and social organisation of the school community.
